May Reminders - We're hitting the road!

May Meeting - This month, we will not be meeting at Strawberry Patches. Instead, we'll be taking a road trip! This Saturday, May 18th, we'll be heading up the mountain to enjoy the 31st Annual Pine Mountain Club Lilac Festival and Pine Mountain Scrappers "Quilting in the Pines" Quilt Show. We will be meeting at the Starbucks by Strawberry Patches at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and hit the road around 9:00. Parking and admission to the festival are free, but there is a $3 admission charge for the quilt show. In addition to the quilt show, the festival offers over 100 art & craft vendors, food vendors, and live music. There are also shops and restaurants around Pine Mountain Village. The weather forecast for the area on Saturday is 70*! We will be carpooling, so if you'll be joining the group on our first road trip, please leave a comment on this post, our Facebook page or guild email {bakersfieldmodernquiltguild(at)gmail(dot)com}so that we can make sure not to leave anyone behind.

Directions: From either direction on I-5, take the Frazier Mountain Park Road Exit (205). Go west for 12 miles. Bear right onto Mil Potrero Highway and drive 6 miles into Pine Mountain. Pine Mountain Village is on the left. You will see the Village Center sign at the corner of Mil Potrero Highway and Freeman Drive. Turn left on Freeman Drive and turn right on Pine Valley Lane into the Center. Continue on Pine Valley Lane until you see the Jennings Realty sign on the right.

Sew In - Saturday, May 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bolts to Binding. Come join the fun at our monthly Sew In! Bring a project to work on and a snack to share (optional).

Question of the Week

I thought this would be a good day to ask a question about recycling..

When making a quilt, have you ever used fabric that had a previous life as something else?
Would you use a bedsheet in your quilt blocks, or as a backing?
If not in a quilt, would you use it for a different sewing project?
What other "fabrics" might you use?
Where do you find them?

Question of the Week

Question Mark Clip Art

How would you finish this sentence......
"Nothing inspires me like..."?

*Boy have I been a slacker!I didn't realize that I've neglected to post Questions for the past two weeks. I'll have to blame it on springtime. It's got me very distracted....all the sunshine, gardening, and cleaning! :-)
